Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development Bright Msaka has said his ministry is geared to deal with all corrupt practices that have been rocking the ministry.

Msaka said this in an interview on Tuesday at the end of his familiarisation tour of the Southern Region lands, housing, physical planning, surveys and building offices and Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) head office.

Msaka said when President Peter Mutharika was sworn in, he pledged to fight corruption.

Also recently when he opened an orientation workshop for ministers and their deputies in Mangochi, Mutharika advised them to refrain from corrupt practices.

“Corruption is one of the main evils that my ministry is committed to tackling and should any corrupt activity be discovered, the responsible individuals will be taken to task. As of now, I have authorised that any transaction that comes to me concerning land should have a certificate showing that no corrupt activity was involved,” said Msaka.

Addressing officers, the minister appealed for dedication, saying “there is no point in being a government employee, but failing to work according to the public’s expectations.”

He also urged ministry officials to revise rentals for government houses so that the money government receives should be adequate to maintain the houses.
